Position Overview
NOLA is seeking warm, dependable, and enthusiastic Outdoor Educator to join the EverWild Forest School team for the 2026–2027 school year.
Outdoor Educators work collaboratively with a co-teacher to create safe, engaging, and nurturing outdoor learning experiences for children. Using EverWild’s nature-based curriculum, educators support child-led exploration while helping students build cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children between the ages of 4 and 14, feels energized by spending time outdoors, and can remain positive and adaptable in changing weather and environmental conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate EverWild’s nature-based curriculum through engaging lessons and activities, complimented by child-led exploration and play.
Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment that supports children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
Build warm, respectful relationships with children and help each child feel safe, capable, and included.
Collaborate closely with a co-teacher to plan activities, manage the group, and provide a cohesive program experience.
Supervise children actively and use strong group-management practices throughout each class.
Complete daily risk and hazard assessments of outdoor learning spaces.
Maintain appropriate hygiene, safety, and outdoor classroom standards.
Adapt activities based on student needs, weather, site conditions, and unexpected circumstances.
Communicate clearly and professionally with children, families, colleagues, and NOLA leadership.
Travel weekly or biweekly to the program’s supply trailer to pick up curriculum materials, equipment, and safety supplies.
Participate actively outdoors with students in a variety of weather conditions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience working with children or youth.
Experience in outdoor education, environmental education, recreation, camps, schools, or childcare is preferred but not required.
A genuine enthusiasm for working outdoors and helping children develop a meaningful connection with nature.
A warm, encouraging, and inclusive approach to working with children and families.
Strong group-management, supervision, and safety skills.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Dependability, organization, and the ability to arrive prepared and on time.
Flexibility and a positive attitude when responding to changing weather, student needs, and outdoor conditions.
Current first aid and CPR certification or a willingness to obtain certification before beginning work.

Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to:
Walk and hike over uneven terrain.
Lift and carry at least 35 pounds.
Carry program supplies and equipment to and from outdoor locations.
Remain active outdoors for extended periods.
Participate in outdoor activities in a variety of seasonal weather conditions.
Respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.

Technology and Transportation Requirements
Employees must have:
A cell phone capable of making occasional work-related calls and running EverWild’s family communication app during class.
Occasional access to a computer with internet for work-related tasks and virtual meetings.
An active email address for internal communication.
Reliable transportation to assigned class locations and the program supply trailer in varying weather conditions.
