Instead of unstructured time that can sometimes lead to boredom or conflict, Rooted Recess provides a thoughtfully facilitated environment where students explore, collaborate, and build essential social-emotional skills outdoors.
Rooted Recess blends freedom and structure to create a supportive outdoor environment.
Programs may include:
Nature-based play with loose parts (sticks, logs, natural materials)
Optional guided activities that support social-emotional development
Educator facilitation to support inclusion, engagement, and positive interactions
Opportunities for exploration, creativity, and collaboration
All programming is adapted to fit each school’s space, schedule, and student needs.
Rooted Recess is facilitated by NOLA’s trained outdoor educators and delivered across recess periods on school grounds. Our team brings materials, structure, and expertise, making it easy for schools to enhance recess without adding burden to staff.
