Who We Are
Our mission is to improve academic success and overall wellbeing for youth nationwide through the power of nature by designing, operating, and expanding programs that harness the benefits of outdoor learning and connect children with the natural world.
We achieve our mission in three ways:
Operating outdoor learning programs
We design and run outdoor learning programs that serve children directly and demonstrate what high-quality, nature-based education looks like in practice.
Expanding access through partnerships
We work with schools and community organizations to bring outdoor learning to more students by adapting our programs to fit different settings, schedules, and needs.
Supporting leaders building programs nationwide
We support educators, founders, and organizations working to bring outdoor learning to their communities by helping expand access to nature-based education across the country.
Our kids spend more time indoors than any generation in history.
Studies show that consistent time in nature is critical for children from infancy through the teenage years (and beyond!).
Outdoor exposure uniquely benefits cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development; so much so that access to green space has been identified as a powerful predictor of lifetime success - from academic achievement to the ability to stay calm under stress.
The majority of a child’s day is spent inside the home, at daycare, and in school. Therefore, we specifically work to increase outdoor time in these capacities.
